Concern was mounting that Universal Pictures Wolfman was going to be delayed due to the writer’s strike. We have news today that should set your hearts free of worry. We get the scoop thanks to our friends at Bloody Disgusting:
We have just confirmed that Mark Romanek will be heading being the camera on February 8 in London to begin shooting the film starring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins! Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., new pic will be set in Victorian England. Del Toro will play a man who returns from America to his ancestral homeland, gets bitten by a werewolf and begins a hairy moonlight existence.
I am always game for a movie about lycanthropes. They are much more blue collar than vampires, and growing up in a steel town I find I am able to connect with them on a more personal level. My favorite werewolf of all time, sadly, has no film as of yet. He is the beerwolf and not only does he enjoy drinking beer – but he is also fond of surfing -which I find delightful!
I have yet to see the original film, but it seems to have positive reviews and with hope, this remake will do it justice. Hiring Benicio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins is a good place to start. I will keep my ear to the ground for this one and will continue to share news with all of your. Monster movies kick ass and I always welcome them – Wolfman has a scheduled release date of February 13, 2009.
