It looks like we will be given another movie adaptation from the work of pulp action-master Robert E. Howard. We get the scoop today from our friends at ropeofsilicon:
Anticipated as a new trilogy, Solomon Kane starring James Purefoy in the lead role has just rounded out its complete cast adding Max von Sydow and Pete Postlethwaite to the fray as they join already cast Rachel Hurd-Wood, Alice Krige and Mackenzie Crook.
The film is adapted from the pulp novels of Robert E. Howard, author of “Conan the Barbarian,” first serialized in the 1920s and ’30s and described as an epic tale of a 16th century soldier tormented by his past evil deeds, seeking redemption by battling a sinister power threatening the kingdom.
I was turned on to Robert E Howard by Red Steven, and It was some of the best reading I have ever experienced. This man was brilliant at writing action adventure stories that kept you glued to the book as you devoured the pages. Hours can fly by when you read his work; all sense of time is lost as you are pulled into the story and join in on the adventure. I know nothing about the character Solomon Kane, but If any of you have read his tales; please share your thoughts with us.
Max Von Sydow is a man that I love. From Strange Brew to Conan The Barbarian his imposing presence is always welcome, and his bombastic acting style reminds me of the early days of cinema. He is a titan of a man and having him act out another Robert E. Howard story is just fine by me. You see Pete Postlethwaite pop up in a ton of films; he is a manly dude that should work well aside Sydow (lets hope they have scenes together).
We will be on the hunt for further news about this project and will be sure to keep you posted!
