We have some details about the direction they are taking with the Enron scandal film Conspiracy Of Fools thanks to our friends at firstshowing:
Conspiracy of Fools is based on a book by Kurt Eichenwald of the same name. Amazon.com describes the concept: Conspiracy of Fools tells the Enron tale with a cinematic narrative style, relying almost exclusively on scene and dialogue to bring his account to vivid life. We see how federal regulators opened the doors for the Enron fraud early on when they let the company loosen up its accounting rules and essentially cook its books. We read how Enron bullied Wall Street firms into issuing favorable reports about its share price by threatening to take away lucrative banking fees. Eichenwald also reveals how Enron manipulated electricity prices during the California energy crisis of 2000.
We have talked about this film a few times now, but it cool to see what direction they are taking it. It is going to be tough to get all the information we need through narrative storytelling without the film being 3 hours long. If they are able to tell a quality story in less than 2, I will be very impressed. The Enron blowup was a huge scandal and the story definitely needs to get out there, I am just uncertain that a film about the incident will be all that entertaining.
I think the best way to tackle this story is through a documentary film; and that has already been done in Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room. I think an event of this size would even warrant a few more documentaries, and I would easily sit through a number of them.
Conspiracy of Fools is set for release in 2008 and we will be sure to throw up a trailer when it is made available to us. Does this film interest you guys at all?
Do any of you know someone that was directly affected by this scandal; if so – please share.
