Madonna presented her directorial debut, ‘Filth and Wisdom,’ at the Berlin Film Festival recently, and despite many flawed moments in the film, the film is surprisingly being well received from the public.
Yahoo!News gives us these details:
The message in Madonna’s first outing as feature film director, “Filth and Wisdom,” is that all of us can find peace of mind and happiness if we just get in touch with our inner slut.
Ragged, uneven and potholed with some dire dialogue and performances, the film’s cockeyed optimism and likable leads conspire to bring a smile by the time it’s done. Barely feature length at 81 minutes, it likely will appeal to Madonna’s fans for its echoes of various threads of her own life story and the grunge style of “Desperately Seeking Susan.” To many, however, it will remain an oddity.
“Wisdom” is unexpectedly sentimental, too, but the three leads are sufficiently engaging that while chaotic and more than a bit silly, the film in the end conjures up a surprising amount of goodwill.
Well if anyone knows how to get in touch with their inner slut, it’s certainly Madonna. :P I always found it strange how we get fascinated when an actor/singer decides to direct a feature film. For some reason, no matter if you can’t STAND the celebrity, you still manage to develop a morbid curiosity to see their film. I think the same can be said when a celebrity writes a novel, or releases their own fashion and perfume labels, or CDs. We are always attracted to the stars who attempt at being a double, triple, and sometimes quadruple threat.
Honestly though, I much prefer Madonna behind the camera, instead of in front of it. (That is unless she makes a sequel to her very intriguing documentary, ‘Truth or Dare.’) If she receives more praise for this movie, maybe the public will not have to endure anymore ‘Swept Aways’ or ‘Next Best Things.’
I can’t deny the fact that I’m slightly curious to see this film. (Damn it!) How about you?
Btw…don’t you just love this picture of her behind the director’s chair? :P
