It looks like This Side Of Truth has landed another stellar thespian. Rob Lowe will be joining the project and we get the outstanding news from the professionals at Variety:
Rob Lowe has been set to star with Ricky Gervais and Jennifer Garner in “This Side of the Truth,” a comedy Gervais and Matt Robinson wrote together and will co-direct. Picture was set up as part of the Media Rights Capital slate; MRC made a distribution deal with Warner Bros. The film will be produced by Lynda Obst and Oly Obst. Shooting begins in the spring.
The comedy takes place in a world where everybody tells the truth. Gervais plays a storyteller whose job is to ramble on about the 1300s. Faced with losing his job because his terrain is a boring period in history once he gets beyond the Black Death, he invents lying as a way to save himself. Lowe will play his arch nemesis.
A story about a man that invents lying is a brilliant idea, especially in the context of writing history. In order to save his job, he alters history books – that is a blank check for hilarious. I am interested in seeing how ridiculous the historical rewrites will be, and how he gets caught, because lying up to this point – never existed.
Rob Lowe is a fantastic choice for a spectrum of roles, comedy being one of them. He was great in everything from Wayne’s World to Thank You For Smoking and it will be a treat to see him work alongside Gervais. I am wondering if he will play a boss character or a moral investigator trying to make sense of this new paradigm of the fib. Either way, Lowe is a welcome addition to the cast and should be nothing short of delightful.
This film is scheduled for a 2009 release and we will be sure to keep you posted on the progress!
