You know, with all the remakes and adaptations that have been flying around the last couple of years, I’ve legitimately been shocked that we haven’t seen a Lone Ranger movie. Yes, we’ve heard the rumblings for the last 2 years or so about them trying to get something going, but with little to no progress on the project.
Well, it seems that things are slowly moving forward. The word is that Pirates of the Caribbean writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio are on deck to put The Lone Ranger script together for proverbial Hollywood super producer Jerry Bruckheimer (say what you want… the man knows how to make hits).
The folks at ComingSoon give us this:
The hero’s origin story begins with a group of Texas Rangers chasing down a gang of outlaws led by Butch Cavendish. The gang ambushes the Rangers, seemingly killing them all. One survivor is found, however, by an American Indian named Tonto, who nurses him back to health. The Ranger, donning a mask and riding a white stallion named Silver, teams up with Tonto to bring the unscrupulous gang and others of that ilk to justice.
You know what… sign me up. It’s been a LONG time since we had a good old fashioned popcorn western. A character like The Lone Ranger is perfect for theaters right now and I think this could be a lot of damn fun.
