We have even more G.I. Joe casting news today. Brendan Fraser and The Rock may be involved in the upcoming picture; we get wind of this news thanks to the Latino Review:
I have just learned through my sources that BRENDAN FRASER has booked the role of GUNG HO for Stephen Sommer’s big screen live-action adaptation of “G.I. Joe.” Now, it is only a one scene cameo. The scene is question is a training sequence at THE PIT. Brendan already shot his part. I also learned that AN OFFER has been made to THE ROCK for the role of HECTOR DELGADO aka SHIPWRECK. At this time THE ROCK hasn’t said either yes or no, but the offer is out to him.
I have serious reservations about this film, and these casting announcements will not change that fact. I am certainly not looking forward to this movie, and am disappointed that this is the case. I have always loved the G.I. Joe Universe, and often hoped as a youngster for a live action adaptation.
Mr. Fraser will need to shave his head and get a chest tattoo; the makeup department will have to spend hours drawing an eagle on his torso. It seems a bit strange to bring in Fraser for one scene, if they are going to have short drop in appearances from a myriad of characters, unknown actors would work just as fine as bigger name celebrities. Perhaps thy are trying to use star power as a tractor beam
I will admit that the idea of The Rock as Shipwreck tickled my fancy. Shipwreck is a fast talking, smooth operator and The Rock has similar gifting of gab. He has yet to agree to the project, so we will have to wait and see if he decides to climb aboard this sinking ship. If Shipwreck is in this film – he better have a parrot.
