For those of you looking for more post-divorce romantic comedies HangingOutHookingUpFallingInLove may be the movie for you. We get word of this project from the professionals at Variety:
Barra Grant’s romantic comedy “HangingOutHookingUpFallingInLove” has signed an ensemble cast of Richard E. Grant, Carrie-Anne Moss, Janeane Garofalo, Jenna Elfman, Rita Rudner, Camryn Manheim, Caroline Aaron and Johnny Pacar.
Grant is directing from her own script. Story centers on a newly separated father having to learn how to date again with help from his teenage son who himself dreams of conquering one girl’s heart.
A father and son exchanging tips as they both try to navigate singledom does have potential to be quite funny. I would love to see a scene where the son tells his father to shy away from some women because they are “too much like mom”.
With divorce at about 50% this is a film that many will be able to relate to. Getting back out into the meat market can be a daunting task for those that have grown comfortable as part of a family unit. As times change, so does the game, and adapting to the modern dating world may be an alien endeavor for those that met their exes over a decade ago. Dating can be painful, and tragedy is the soil that grows the best comedy; I am intersted in seeing how this one turns out.
The best part of this news is that Rita Rudner is in this film. She is one of my favorite comedians and probably one of the funniest people on the planet. If you are not familiar with her – please check out this fantastic 6 minute clip.
