It appears the legendary film critic Roger Ebert has opened up a blog on his site, with an activated comments section! We get the glorious scoop via our friends at cinematical:
Monday, with typically little fanfare, Ebert took on even more work, this time in the form of a blog added to his website. He’s calling it “Roger Ebert’s Journal,” and his first entry is about leading a delegation of the Urbana High School Science Fiction Club to a speech by Sir Arthur C. Clarke at the University of Illinois. (Can’t you just picture him as the leader of a sci-fi club? I can.) Ebert shares a little slice of movie history in the post, talking about the Cinenamia CD-ROM (kind of a precursor to IMDb), of which Clarke was apparently quite fond.
Ebert has a razor sharp with and offers delightful commentary on not only film; but life itself. It’s a good day when we have his thoughts available to us in blog format. I am wondering if we will see a more “off the cuff” Ebert when he is “off the clock”. I welcome this decision and will certainly add this site to my personal blogroll.
Letting people interact in the comments section was a classy decision and an excellent way for Ebert to interact with a new generation of fans. The man’s career spans decades and his thoughts have the riches and depth that can only be obtained through lived experience and an examined life. Cheers to cinematical for bringing this to our attention. With people like Ebert now blogging about film; our competition certainly isn’t getting any easier. I have already dug a grave for myself in preparation.
