I got my movie boner for Rose McGowan way back during a little film called Jawbreakers. She is certainly an eyecatcher and an easy fit into a sexually dominate role. So when news came out that she would be in a remake to play Jane Fonda’s provocative role of Barbarella, I thought it was awesome. The role was originally rumoured to go to Sienna Miller or Lindsay Lohan, but then Rose won out (perhpas by dating the director?) Then news was flying everywhere that the movie was canned or that Rose was no longer involved. Well apparently this isn’t so.
Straight from that very sexy mouth, MTVMovies Blog quotes Rose:
“[The news that I was out] was really irritating because I know all the people over there and obviously it wasn’t true. It was very malicious and there was no proof,” McGowan said of the rumors. “Oftentimes these things have basis in truth but this didn’t. I have contracts to prove it.”
Not just the contracts, either, but sets and costumes, and a whole “lot of pre-production work,” McGowan revealed, hinting that the flick is actually quite a bit further along than previously speculated.
The article continues to point out other circumstantial evidence that the movie is still on its way, but fears of a potential SAG strike might keep this “longer shoot” on hiatus. Apparently Rose getting the gig had nothing to do with the rumour of the movie being dropped.
But it is happening. Just like something in my pants just happened.
Rose also admits that she can’t wait to “step into those knee-high boots, calling herself a big “fan of the original.”
