Because of his bold relentless personality in interviews I can see why it would be fun to cut up Uwe Boll for his antics and his films. And Now Entertainment Weekly has offered a list of 11 of his films up as evidence that Uwe is possibly the WORST director in film.
Judging by 11 of his movies — which one man had the fortitude to watch — the German schlockmeister is definitely in the running
Now, the 11 movies on which they are passing this speculative judgement are as follows:
Murder in Geneva – 1993 (Political Crime Drama)
The First Semester – 1997 (College Comedy)
Sanctimony – 2000 (American Psycho clone)
Blackwoods – 2002 (Suspense Drama)
Heart of America – 2003 (Guns in Schools drama)
House of the Dead – 2003 (first real US Wide release – video game adaptation)
Alone in the Dark – 2005 (Video Game adaptation)
Bloodrayne – 2005 (Video Game Adaptation)
Bloodrayne 2 Deliverance – 2007 (Video Game Adaptation)
In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Seige Tale – 2007 (Video Game Adaptation)
So this is a wide sampling of Boll’s portfolio, and there are no Oscar contenders on the list. But I have to hand it to this guy. He has a career set for life. He is the master of generating buzz (Boxing his critics, Retirement Petition challenge, general fearless boldness) and he has cornered the market for Video game movies. Any smaller studio wanting to put their game to film can count on Boll to step up. (Maybe he should do Halo)
But is he the WORST? Sure, he may be a far cry from the best but he has a lot of experience doing this gig, and from John’s accounts he is a naturally likable guy in person. Maybe he just charms himself into movie after movie.
I can honestly say I haven’t seen the majority of the films on this sampling list, so I don’t have an issue with him as a director as I have more experience with his presence in the media instead of his works. All this in mind, there is a lot of positive Buzz about Postal (and not just from Boll).
Maybe he will surprise everyone. Maybe it will just be one more film to add to this list to use against him.
Who would you say is the worst director in film?
