I have always thought there should be an Academy Award for movie trailers ever since I was fooled by the very cool Musketeer trailer, and then forced to endure this lousy craptastic movie. That trailer editor sure earned his paycheque that day!
The closest we get is the Golden Trailer Awards and Batman:the Dark Knight took top honours.
After a long, hard-fought battle, the second official trailer for The Dark Knight took home top honors at this year’s Golden Trailer Awards (with a margin of victory of 44%). The contest, held over at USA Today, tallied votes on films from several different categories — all of which were chosen as this year’s Golden Trailer winners earlier in the month.
I am not surprised that this has won. It was a finely crafted trailer and it was to promote an insanely anticipated Batman Sequel.
This brings a question to mind then. Was this trailer chosen for its fine editing and presentation, or was it completely based on the popularity of the movie for which it promotes?
You can go over to the Golden Trailer Awards and check out the contenders yourself.
