UK Rocker Russell Brand has decided to halt progress on a film adaptation of his tell all autobiography My Booky Wook. We get the scoop from our friends at MTV:
American audiences may have just been introduced to Russell Brand thanks to a scene-stealing performance in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” but the British comic is quite well known in his native land. No, REALLY well known, after Brand wrote a “warts and all” autobiography, “My Booky Wook,” which chronicled his rise to fame and his subsequent drug addictions.
Brand would like to keep it that way (the part about Americans not knowing about his past, that is), telling MTV News that he’s decided not to move forward with a movie adaptation of “Booky Wook,” which was to be directed by “24 Hour Party People” helmer Michael Winterbottom. “I’m not going to make the Booky Wooky into a film anymore because then people in America will learn what my past is like. [Of course],people that can be bothered to read will know that I have a checkered past,” he laughed.
Brand goes on in the article to joke that he will be playing himself in films for the next 10 years anyway, (making a biopic overkill). His upcoming project Get Him to the Greek has him playing a rock star and he will no doubt continue to score these roles until filmmakers find other suitable parts for him. He suggests that after 10 years of playing himself – he will be pigeon holed into playing mailmen. I don’t know much about this overseas sensation – but from the interviews I have read, he’s fuckin’ hilarious.
This guy is who he is and fame seems to be thrust upon him; I like the cut of his jib.
I think it’s a shame that his biopic has been halted, I guess I will have to read his Booky Wook and find out why.
