Michael Moore has shed some light on his upcoming film. We learn that the title is While America Slept and we have some words from the man himself on the matter thanks to our friends over at ropeofsilicon:
The Los Angeles Times spoke with Moore and learned the actual working title for the film is While America Slept and will offer a withering look at America’s global conduct and reputation. “We have a big, big mess, and I don’t know if it can be cleaned up. The toxicity of the spill is just that great,” Moore told the LA Times. “Since I made Fahrenheit, our standing in the world had depleted to an even worse state.”
He was reluctant to reveal anything else because he wants “to be able to finish.” Apparently early details about Sicko gave health care companies an advantage — the filmmaker promises that his next movie will be “dangerous.” The main question Moore’s film intends to ask is “Are we at the points where the Romans were?”
While America Slept…The Empire Crumbled. Moore is a man undeterred by hate mail, and it looks as if he’s trying to make a case that America is going to go the way of the Roman Empire. This is speculation based on the above information, and could be a red herring to throw us off, but it’s safe to say that he should have a few surprises for us.
Moore always manages to get a ton of free press through news coverage. It seems a few months before and after a film – he is on the news non stop. This is the greatest advertising you could hope for; and I expect more of the same for this project.
Love Moore, or hate him, he has brought attention to documentary filmmaking, and introduced it to many who may not give a damn otherwise. For this, I salute him.
We will be sure to track the news regarding this project, and keep you up to speed on any name changes that may occur.
