Sherlock Holmes is a wonderful character exploring deductive reasoning to solve crimes. The Sherlock Holmes novels were required reading when I was in school, and I think his absence from the big screen has been too long.
Now Mr Madonna himself, Guy Ritchie will be directing the project.
Guy Ritchie has come aboard to direct Warner Bros.’ Sherlock Holmes for Lionel Wigram and Dan Lin, reports Variety.
Ritchie is also working on a rewrite/polish of Tony Peckham’s script, based on Wigram’s upcoming comic book “Sherlock Holmes.” The studio is eyeing a 2010 release.
I am more interested in Holmes coming back to the big screen as his adventures are so amazing to read. In the current world where CSI (insert cool city name here) dominates TV, we don’t think too much about how things were solved in the Victorian gaslight era.
Holmes’ style was not as ludicrous as some spoofs imply. The interesting thing was how the reasoning, though painfully obvious to Holmes, was out of left field for most, he did always manage to explain how he came to it. The real mystery of the books was always trying to figure it all out before the reveal. I hope they capture this in the film.
No news yet on who would play Holmes or his faithful associate Watson.
