It looks like Art Marcum and Matt Holloway will have enough wood to throw on the fire for quite some time to come. We learn today that the pair have been asked to adapt Robert Ludlum’s The Sigma Protocol for the silver screen. We get wind of this news thanks to our friends at cinematical:
Universal first nabbed the rights to Robert Ludlum’s The Sigma Protocol back in 2002, and announced its intention to go forward with the adaptation in early 2006. But it has the project languish since then, maybe so as not to cannibalize the audience for its own Bourne films. Now that Bourne has apparently entered the action movie pantheon, the studio is ready to put Sigma on the front burner. They’ve hired Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, hot commodities after the unqualified success of Iron Man, to write the screenplay. Several other screenwriters have already taken a stab at it, but Marcum and Holloway will start from scratch.
The Sigma Protocol involves a young banker who stumbles upon a conspiracy to manipulate the world economy and finds himself an assassination target. Accompanied by a beautiful intelligence agent, he globe-hops to solve the mystery and elude his pursuers.
The secret cabal of bankers conspire to rule the earth! This sounds like a cool idea for a film, but It may be difficult to make banker on banker warfare exciting on the big screen. Instead of ninja stars perhaps pencils of the utmost sharpness will be flung into the tender heads of all that oppose them. Maybe a super calculator will use mathematics to induce pregnancy on wayward teens. I don’ t know what they will do – but if any of you have read the book, please fill us in.
The Iron Man team did a great job with that adaptation, now we get to see how well they do with novel transformation. If these two can continue to be fan favorites, I am all for work being thrown at them.
