It looks like the remake of Friday the 13th will feature Jason in a sack over his head, and then a hockey mask. We get these details from our friends over at IESB:
The IESB visited the set of Friday the 13th last week to see maniac killer Jason Voorhees in action after a long absence. According to the filmmakers, in this new film, we’ll see both Sack Jason and Hockey Mask Jason.
Another reporter present commented that it would be Voorhees’ “Darth Vader Moment” of donning the mask – which sounds like a pretty good description. While is may be true that it was shot from behind as Fuller said, when we spoke with make up man Scott Stoddard later that night (actually early the next morning) he said the shot of Voorhees switching from sack to mask was actually shot two ways – one from the front with Mears in full Jason make-up and one from behind so to hide the face.
I think having a special moment in the film where Jason dons the legendary mask is a nice touch. It pays homage to the original progression of things, but in a much shorter amount of time. I for one would be pissed if he wasn’t in the hockey mask, but I am cool if he doesn’t wear it the entire film.
I am still skeptical about this remake, I would have preferred another sequel ….but if they do an outstanding job, my concerns will be laid to rest. If they can make a killer scene where jason gets the hockey mask and throws it on, it could be a powerful moment indeed.
The slasher film is probably my favorite type of horror film. Part of this is probably due to the fact that I was a kid in the 80’s and guys like Freddy and Jason scarred the absolute hell out of me. I remember the first time I saw a Friday the 13th film, I was terrified. I heard so much about this Jason character before I saw the film, that when I did, his reputation made everything even more frightening. With luck his legend will continue to frighten another generation of kids that sneak into films they are not old enough to see.
