We have some details for the upcoming Wachowki project Ninja Assassin thanks to our good friends over at cinematical:
Ninja Assassin will center on, “Raizo (Rain), one of the deadliest assassins in the world. Taken from the streets as a child, he was transformed into a trained killer by the Ozunu Clan, a secret society whose very existence is considered a myth. But haunted by the merciless execution of his friend by the Clan, Raizo breaks free from them…and vanishes. Now he waits, preparing to exact his revenge.”
If the quality of a film was determined by it’s title, Ninja Assasin would have a gold medal. I’m always game for a film about ninjas, because ninjas are ruthless, sneaky assassins that take care of business. They also have bitchin’ outfits and an array of outstanding weapons. Truth be told, when I die – I hope it’s at the hand of a skillful ninja (as I sleep).
A ninja turning on the clan that trained him is always a good story. It can be told 1000 times in a 1000 different ways and never get boring. A man snapping out of his training only to realize a higher truth is certainly a theme that will live on from age to age. Often one person’s stand against an injustice will be the tipping point and catalyst for change. In ninja society, change means that a lot of people die.
