The beautifully captivating Zhang Ziyi is set to become a Chinese movie director who becomes the amorous target of Hugh Grant. Well more accurately, Ziyi will PLAY a director, and Hugh will play a star in her movie.
The plot of Lost for Words actually has to do with film set communications. Grant is in negotiations to play a movie star appearing in a film directed by a Chinese woman (Zhang). He develops feelings for her, but unfortunately he initially becomes involved with her flirtatious translator. So, if he’s to confess his love for the non-English-speaking filmmaker, he must do so through this other woman, whose heart he must first break.
I like the idea of this movie, and the bumbling antics littered with charm that Grant brings to the screen will inevitably bring about some great awkwardly funny moments. His humility is best seen in “Music and Lyrics” which I found very funny and quite charming despite its predictable RomCom formula.
However, this film is being written by Jamie Curtis and Dan Mazer. Curtis is “best known” for writing the script for the ludicrously silly Spice Girls movie Spice World while Dan Mazer is credited for writing Borat. What did he write? I thought the premise of Borat is that it wasn’t “written” Oh well.
I don’t have a lot of confidence behind these names. It might turn out to be the best Hugh Grant romantic comedy ever, who knows?
Either way I am curious to see how these two strong presences play off against each other.
