Already Miss Euro 2008? Go Rent Shaolin Soccer

I’m not really much of a Soccer fan. But even I get caught up in the energy of it whenever the World Cup (FORZA ITALIA!!!!!) comes around every four years… and to a lesser degree when the Euro Cup pops up. Euro 2008 is now over (congratulations Spain), and it was seriously one hell of an exciting tournament (thank you Turkey) and now that it’s done… I find that I miss turning on the TV and being able to find Soccer anywhere.

Thank goodness that the only thing better than sports is movies… and here to fill in the gap is one of my all time favorite sports movies… and one of my all time favorite asian films in general… the Stephen Chow masterpiece “Shaolin Soccer“!

Yeah, I’ve talked about this flick before, but this is a great time to watch this sucker.

A group of brothers who believe the practice of Kung Fu can better the lives of everyone, decide to form a Soccer team based on their mastery of Kung Fu in order to win a national tournament so everyone will know how great and how useful Kung Fu is.

This movie is flat out HILARIOUS… the visual effects are terrific and it’s pretty exciting too… but really the most notable thing about the film is the incredible humor. Chow (who also did Kung Fu Hustle) is known for his ability to deliver laughs, but Shaolin Soccer is more than just a comedy.

If you’ve been watching any of Euro 2008, this is a great time to appreciate this movie. Go get it. go go go… and remember… Kung Fu is great.
