We have another comic book/feature film package in the works called Chopper Zombie! We get the following skinny from our friends at comingsoon:
Thom Beers, the producer behind the hit reality series “Ice Road Truckers,” “Deadliest Catch” and “Monster Garage,” will tackle zombie bikers in his first film and comic book project, reports Variety.
Beers’ Original Productions and comic book publisher Devil’s Due are moving forward with Chopper Zombie, about a motorcycle builder who refuses to sell his formula for a new superfuel to a dangerous corporation. When a team of thugs drowns him in his own toxic creation, he rises from the dead with a score to settle.
Todd Livingston (“The Black Forest,” “The Wicked West”) will pen the graphic novel, with Scott Keating (“Death and the Man Who Could Not Die,” “Elk’s Run”) handling the art.
The comic book is set to launch at the San Diego Comic Con and will be avaliable at your local comic book store July 30th. I don’t know what to think of these simultaneous comic book/film launches. I can how a good comic book can be used to generate buzz for the film, but my concern is that if they are too similar – it may ruin the movie for some. Now granted, when you see most superhero films – you already know the origin story; I just worry that the comic book will be more like a novelization of the film rather than having its own story to tell. We shall see.
I am not opposed to the idea of a Zombie Biker. In fact, I think the idea is so outlandish that it could be quite fun. Throwing zombies into a biker film is a combination that has certainly caught my attention, and swelled my interest. Production for this picture begins next year, and I will try to get my hands on a copy of the comic(at the Con) and give all of you a heads up on the story!
