It appears that all four original Ghostbusters may be returning to the silver screen – to pass their mantles unto the new school. We get the following scoop from out friends at Dread Central:
According to our source all four Ghostbusters — Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson — have agreed to return to the franchise. A few years ago that would have been downright unbelievable, but considering they all just got back into their roles for the Ghostbusters videogame, it’s more than plausible that they’d do it on-camera one more time.
Now here’s the really interesting part; though not much is known about the plot, apparently the ‘Busters will be handing over their proton packs to Seth Rogan and the crew from 40 Year Old Virgin!
If they can get the full ensemble cast of The 40 Year Old Virgin to assemble as the Ghostbuster’s replacements – It could be cool. I am very pensive about it however. I don’t like the “passing of the guard” aspect of it. I know some may think that this is great news, but If they are going to do another Ghostbusters film; I really want to see the old gang back together and kicking ass one more time.
If they reserved the passing of the packs till the third act; I could live with that. It closes off the trilogy for the original four, and sets up a future film (or so) with the new crew. I think that this would be the best compromise, and make for the best story.
