The Israeli feature HaHov will be remade into an English feature called The Debt. We get the following news about this project thanks to the fabled caves of yahoo:
“Shakespeare in Love” director John Madden is in negotiations to take the helm of the Nazi hunting thriller “The Debt.”
The Miramax Films project is based on the 2007 Israeli feature “HaHov,” which follows a trio of 1960s Israeli intelligence agents who pursue an elusive Nazi war criminal. More than 30 years later, their target re-emerges. As with the original, the remake is expected to feature two actresses playing the female protagonist in the ’60s and ’90s.
It’s always open season on Nazis! Whenever a project is shy a villain, you can always throw in a Nazi for good measure. History has a myriad of villains, but few are so dastardly and well dressed as the Nazis. We could use a few more films about super secret immortal Nazis, or perhaps some cyborg Nazis for good measure.
If any of you have seen HaHov please share your thoughts with us about the original. I am going to guess that if the film is getting a remake that it’s decent and is being repackaged for a reason. Often the original is better than the remake so if any of you have seen it I would love a point of reference for comparison, and your opinion of the new film when it’s launched.
