The Force Unleashed Bridges Star Wars Ep 3 and 4

Force-Unleashed-Game.jpgVideo games are trying to put more and more “story” into their experiences. Most of them don’t do that great of a job, because games are based on gameplay and not narrative (and that’s a good thing). But when you already have a full backstory and pre-existing narrative that the Star Wars Universe gives you, you have an advantage.

With that in mind, one of the most anticipated games of the year “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed” boasts that the story serves as a full bridge between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Yahoo News gives us this:

“There’s a couple of big twists and turns in the story,” said Blackman. “One revelation in particular really impacts the rest of the saga as a whole. It goes way beyond filling in gaps. We try to make a bridge on every level. The story has a real implications on ‘Episode IV.’ In some ways, without the apprentice, ‘Episode IV’ couldn’t happen.”

In the first level, players will plow through the Wookie homeworld of Kashyyyk as Darth Vader. Subsequent levels find players serving as Vader’s apprentice and traveling to such locales as a TIE Fighter construction facility, the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, the overgrown planet of Felucia and back to an Empire ravaged Kashyyyk.

Doug-Sith.jpgSounds good to me… except if you’re going to have a bridging story line between eps 3 and 4, WHY NOT DO THAT WITH AN ANIMATED MOVIE INSTEAD OF DOING CLONE WARS?!?!?! (Yeah I’m still bitter about that).

Ok on a side note, the guy who does the voice of the main character in the game, Sam Witwer, is just HILARIOUS. Doug and I met him (that’s him in the picture with Doug) on set of the the new Gerard Butler film “Game” back in January and the dude nearly had me passing out from laughing so hard… you see he was doing this incredible voice imitation of Emperor Palpatine (I think me might actually do that voice in the game too… Im’ not sure) and then he started doing The Emperor having sex. it was seriously funny. If I can get him on the Uncut Live show sometime I’ll totally ask him to do it again.

Anyway, the game itself is scheduled to come out on September 16th. It looks sick as hell… but that might be my Star Wars bias talking.
