We have news regarding the Japanese premier of Speed Racer on the world’s largest screen thanks to the professionals at Variety.
“Speed Racer” set a record of sorts when it preemed in Japan on June 29 on the world’s biggest screen.
The Japan preem at Tokyo Dome attracted 20,000 fans — a disappointment given organizers’ 35,000 target — but those who braved drenching rains saw the pic on a 17.5-meter high, 40-meter wide temporary screen made in the UK, shipped from Canada and lifted into place by seven cranes.
A screen of that size would be an amazing think to behold. I would kill to see the Empire Strikes Back on a screen like that. The AT AT walkers would be huge and the Hoth battle would be a sprawling horizon of snowy violence!
Having a screen like this assembled is a great idea for a premier. It sucks that the arena wasn’t rammed to capacity. Even if Speed Racer isn’t your cup of tea – it would be worth seeing the event for the screen alone!
International friends – what films would you go ga ga for on a screen this size?
