Justin Marks shared some of his script direction, and he claims that when it comes to He-Man; he’s keeping it real. We get the following scoop from an interview Marks had with MTV:
“The script is very true to the characters — we’re not talking about putting nipples on the Trapjaw suit. But we had to come up with a reason again why Trapjaw would actually not just be something that’s totally absurd, but why he would need those bionic parts added to him,” Marks insisted. “Which gives a sort of sense of where [the movie] is going in some way.”
Given a realistic base, Marks said he has more latitude in creating He-Man’s world of Eternia — free to create an epic universe unlike “anything we’ve ever seen before on a visual level.”
I see what Justin Marks is trying to explain, and I am on board. If He-Man is going to be live action, then everything in it has to be realistic within the boundaries of the universe. This is a universe with magic, cyborgs and beasts of peculiar origins, but within the bounds of the world I think that it is important for everything to make sense. Much like in LOTR where it makes sense to have wizards, walking trees and huge birds that you can ride.
If they were to continue with a cartoon film, then to hell with the rules and give Orko the lead role. But for live action, a gritty Eternia suits me just fine and I welcome this window into the world from Mr. Marks.
