Found this interesting:
20th Century Fox’s website just updated and Avatar is no longer listed as having a December 18, 2009 release date. The site, which for months had the release date posted as December 18, 2009, now has it listed as “undefined.” Does this change actually signify a delay? I can see no other reason the webmaster would have deleted the release date.
So is this a technical glitch of the update process, or is Avatar’s release date up in the air? A delay wouldn’t be unexpected: Variety reported that several senior studio executives expected that Cameron would persuade Fox to push the release to 2010.
“Delay” seems to be the magic word of the year so far. Harry Potter, Star Trek… now Avatar?
Making movies is one hell of an undertaking that takes worlds of time, organization, energy and effort. It’s an administrative nightmare not to mention creative challenge. As I got involved in the process of making my own little film (on an infinitely smaller scale than anything Hollywood does) I’ve grown to appreciate just how hard it can be and why it takes so damn long to get the car moving.
I’m not sure how credible this report it. If it’s true it’s unfortunate… but considering what James Cameron is trying to accomplish, it may be totally understandable too. Have you guys heard anything about this?
**UPDATE** – Movie Blog reader Scott just sent me this nice little video of Cameron talking about Avatar. Being a good Canadian boy, Cameron does the interview on CBC. Check it out:
**UPDATE #2** – Apparently the fox website just made an error and are correcting it. So no… Avatar is not delayed again… yet
