A priest, a rabbi and cancer walk into a bar….. Ladies and gentlemen I have news today that Seth Rogen has signed on to star in a comedy called I’m With Cancer. That’s right. We get the following scoop from the chemo caves of Yahoo:
“Cancer” is writer Will Reiser’s autobiographical account of his struggle to beat cancer, with the story centering on a 25-year-old who finds out he has the disease. Reiser was a producer and field producer on HBO’s “Da Ali G Show” and VH1’s “Best Week Ever.”
Also producing are Rogen’s writing-producing partner, Evan Goldberg, and Reiser’s colleague, Ben Karlin, an Emmy-winning veteran of “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report.”
If the dude who wrote this autobiography did so in a humorous manner, then shit – this may turn out to be a qiality comedy. People deal with things differently, and if Will Reiser was involved with Da Ali G Show, I have no doubt that he employed much humor in his personal life as he struggled through treatment.
There are people that think some topics are off limits when it comes to comedy, cancer no doubt is on the list for some; “it’s nothing to joke about”. Personally, I think everything is fair game, including cancer. This affliction has touched almost everyone in one way or another. I have had family members taken out by this bastard and am reminded that genetically I too may suffer this affliction later in life. I refuse to worry about such things and try my best to make light of my horrible odds. Humor takes the power away from the specter of cancer and hurls insult upon the beast.
I enjoy dark comedy, and there aren’t many topics darker than cancer. Wether this will be good or not remains to be seen, but it takes balls to make a film like this and I’m excited to see the end result.
