There have always been a lot of “what if” type comic one shots. You know what I’m talking about. Isolated issues of a particular comic character where is just imagines what it would be like if the situation was different. Not meant to be a part of canon or continuity. Just a simple fun one shot story. Like what if it was the Waynes (Batman’s parents) who found Kal-El (Superman) as a child when he was sent to earth and was raised by them sort of stories.
Well how about if the whole Marvel superhero universe took place in the year 1602? Recently, Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier said he’s love to see a “World War Hulk” movie (how frigging sweet would that be?) or perhaps a movie on the 1602 story.
Leterrier doesn’t seem to be the only one who thinks this would be a good idea. President of production over at Marvel, Kevin Feige says it could actually happen at some point. The good folks over at MTV give us this:
“Something like ‘1602’ I think would be really cool to do at sometime down the line. I love it. It is spectacular,” he said. “But the key to it, the fun of it, is that you need to know those characters very well. You need to know each and every one of those characters and who their present day reincarnations are in order to enjoy and understand and appreciate how Neil was able to reinvent them and do that period spin on them for ‘1602.’ If you don’t know them yet and if they haven’t had their own stories yet, I don’t think it would be as much fun.
I completely see what he’s saying… but I don’t think it would ever happen unless it’s in an animated movie or something like that. Like he said, you’d have to first REALLY establish all the characters involved in the other movies first, make sure you have a significant audience for those movies, and THEN you could consider doing something like 1602. I just don’t think the time table is on their side. And frankly, I don’t think I’d be interested in seeing something like 1602 anyway. Now a World War Hulk movie on the other hand…
