We have news today that Madagascar will be a trilogy of films for certain. We get the following scoop from the pirate caves of Yahoo:
The co-directors of “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” discussed the travel plans of Alex the lion and his friends during the Los Angeles premiere of the sequel to Dreamworks Animation’s 2005 animated hit on Sunday. The film opens November 7 with Ben Stiller back as Alex, Chris Rock as Marty the zebra and David Schwimmer as Melman the giraffe. The first film grossed $530 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
With at least one more sequel anticipated, his partner Tom McGrath said: “We’d like to see the characters get back to New York — that’s where they started. But there are great opportunities for stops around the world.”
With the amount of money that 3-D children’s films rake in, I can’t see this franchise stopping anytime soon. I think a third film was to be expected; and at this point I’m going to guess at least 6 films from the Madagascar gang, a few of which may be direct to DVD spectaculars.
I haven’t seen the first Madagascar film. Campea reviewed that one, and the desire to view it has never filled my bones. The jury is still out on the sequel.
For those of you have youngsters that enjoy the films, I hope this is good news for them. Feel free to them them of plans for the third and stoke the fires of hope for a fourth. As long as the animals have a place to journey to (and there are lots) we will have a movie.
