The George Romero film The Crazies is suiting up for a remake, and Romero has been brought on board to produce. We get the following scoop from our friends at the movieweb:
Overture Films has signed on to produce The Crazies, a remake of George Romero’s 1973 horror. According to Variety, Breck Eisner will direct from a script by Ray Wright and Scott Kosar. Michael Aguilar and Dean Georgaris will produce; Romero will serve as executive producer.
The Crazies revolves around people in a small Kansas town who are beset by a virus that causes insanity and death after a mysterious toxin contaminates the local water supply. Production is set to begin early next year.
I am not big on remakes, but if they’re going to rehash this film, I think it’s a wise move to bring Romero on board. With luck, everything fans of the original film enjoyed will be present post resurrection.
I haven’ t seen the original but will consult the circle of wisdom; the hall of international friends. For those of you that have seen the film – what are your thoughts? Would you like to see a remake, is the film suited for a remake and what are your feelings on the original?
