A Biopic about William the Conquerer is in the works. We get news of this project thanks to our friends at the movieweb:
Killer Films will be taking on a historical conquerer for its next film. According to Variety, the production company has signed a deal with GC Corp to produce William the Conquerer.
The film will be a biopic based off the story of the illegitamite son of the Duke of Normandy and his ascension to being King of England in 1066. Brian Edgar and Derek Wallbank penned the script.
When “Killer Films” brings us a movie about William The Conqueror I can’t help but think that this will be the first of a series. Ten years on I am confident “Killer Films” will have a box set of “dudes that ruled by the sword.” I am also confident that I will own it (if it happens).
I enjoy historical biopics about leaders and conquerors of note. I could watch a different film on Genghis Khan every day of the week for the next month. The stories of some of these leaders are such, that you cant help but feel that hey deserved their place in history. They wrestled to the top and killed to stay there.
I know nothing of William The Conqueror but I look forward to seeing this film and then comparing it to his story. Often the tales that have survived history are more interesting than the film itself. With this one, we shall see. With luck the dudes at Killer films will ensure that this film is indeed killer.
