We have word today that David O. Russell is being courted for the southern justice punch-em-up The Grackle. We get the following scoop from the judgement caves of Yahoo:
David O. Russell is in negotiations to direct Matthew McConaughey in the Southern-fried comedy “The Grackle.” The New Orleans-set tale centers on a barroom fighter who helps clients settle legal disputes with his fists.
“The Grackle” was a spec-script sensation for former lawyers Mike Arnold and Chris Poole several years ago, and New Line Cinema won a bidding war with for an amount said to be in the seven figures.
A brawler/lawer returns to the jungle for a different kind of justice; and a less expensive kind of resolution. This sounds like a film about a Louisiana Thunder Dome. 2 men enter, one man leaves; case closed.
The fact that 2 lawyers wrote this film is amusing to me. I bet they had a good time crafting the story and I privately wonder if they prefer the system they’ve come up with to the legal system we have.
I am guessing McConaughey will be the punch lawyer – and that suits me just fine. “Dudes, we are here to settle this matter with are dukes”.
