We have talked about the lead up Star Trek Countdown– a comic mini series that will preface the movie by telling stories of key members of the Star Trek world, and now JJ Abrams has dropped hints to quell the most puzzling part of this lead in series.
However, one thing that peaked the interest of most die-hard Trekkies was the inclusion of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” characters Captain Picard and Data on the promo image that made the rounds recently, leading to speculation that they’ll have involvement in the upcoming movie.
When asked about this, Abrams decided to take the vague route.
“I think you just have to see that the key is this world, this universe, is not disconnected from what’s come before.”
I like that JJ is offering up this assurance that this reboot is done well within the context of the original series. He is not forgetting what happened before and it is not ignoring it. That world was shaped by the actions and choices of its major players, and the time line will be changed by the interference of an old Spock going back in time.
I think its great to show how singular choices through the Star Trek story have steered the future so the fans can see how one change in Kirk’s earliest days in Starfleet impact everything else so deeply.
