Baz Luhrmann is thinking about taking on another literary classic to bring to the big screen. This time it would be the novel, The Great Gatsby.
“If you wanted to show a mirror to people that says, ‘You’ve been drunk on money,’ they’re not going to want to see it. But if you reflected that mirror on another time they’d be willing to.” Luhrman added, “People will need an explanation of where we are and where we’ve been, and The Great Gatsby can provide that explanation.”
I can totally see the subtle message sent in this and how it is relevant to today’s conditions. But he is right, he has to get on it right away if he wants that message to have value or at his rate of releases, we might be saying how this movie would have been important if it was released 5 years sooner.
I have always been a fan of Baz, so I expect nothing short of amazing again and again from him.
