Sin City 2 Is Ready

Sin-City-2-report.jpgI was a big fan of the original Sin City movie. Not because of the visual style or the unique and over the top way they did the action and violence… but more because of the way the film handled the themes of redemption and beauty. I’ve mentioned this before but I’ll repeat it here. If you really look at Sin City, all three of the central characters are lost, hopeless and have no faith left in themselves or the world they live in. But then each of them find just one little thing… just one thing that is beautiful (the life of a little girl, the affection of the prostitute etc etc etc) and it inspires them. I thought it was actually quite beautiful in that regard.

Anyway, ever since the first film came out there has been speculation about a Sin City 2. The rumors have been going fast and furious about the project but nothing has ever materialized. Well… according to Frank Miller, the film is ready to go. The folks at ComingSoon give us this:

“Sin City 2 is written,” he told the site. “It’s mainly a matter of working out the details of the production. I’m hoping to do it with Robert Rodriguez again in the same circumstances that we did the first one, and we could be shooting as soon as April.”

To me this is good news and bad news. On the good side, I’ve always wanted to see a Sin City 2. On the bad side, I don’t have any faith in the “directing” ability of Frank Miller. Yes the credits say he “co-directed” the first Sin City, but we all know Robert Rodriguez was the real director… and Miller’s upcoming “The Spirit” looks just ass awful. I fear that Miller will want more say in Sin City 2… or even worse… Rodriguez doesn’t come back and Miller does it on his own.

I’m also getting a little bored of the visual style. It was beyond cool in Sin City. It was still really sweet in 300. But now The Spirit is using it too and I’m a bit bored of it.
