Twilight 2 Opens November 20th 2009

The news and evolution of the whole Twilight movie world has been coming fast and furious the last week or so. First a director gets dropped, then a new one gets hired, and now an official release date for Twilight 2 (New Moon) has been announced.

Twilight 2 officially opens on November 20th 2009. Less than a year from now. As of this moment it’s scheduled to open up against the Robert Downey Jr film “Sherlock Holmes” and the new Three Stooges remake.

Now, I know being just a year away may not seem like a lot of time to get a movie together, and some people may feel tempted to proclaim that the studio is “rushing it”. I however would totally disagree. A year is PLENTY of time… WORLDS of time… an ETERNITY of time to get a film like this put together and released with lots of time to spare.

Many films have less that 30 days of shooting with the majority of films being under 60 days. Most indie films will be much less than that. With Twilight, they already have the books, they already have their team, their cast, their financing… they’re ready to go. Twilight is also not a super visual effects heavy film at all… so it’s not like it’ll need 6 months of post production or anything like that either.

So yes, a year for a film like Twilight 2 is tons of time.
