Kevin James is already working on a followup to his upcoming comedy Paul Blart:Mall Cop. This time he will be another uniformed authority – a Zookeeper.
The Zookeeper, a film that MGM has been developing from a script by Jay Scherick and David Ronn (and then Scot Armstrong). It had been mentioned as a possible project for James last year, though nothing was ever confirmed until James talked to us today and mentioned it as something he’s developing
Now I love Kevin James. However I think his role in any movie should be wingman. Kind of a supporting lead.
I just don’t see James carrying a movie. They guy is funny, and a genuine personality. The everyday man can relate to James and in that he can pull ANYONE into a story. Its a rare talent. But honestly I think he needs to be that guy just on the edge of the spotlight or even sharing the left half of it. Not a supporting role exactly, but he always does best in movies where he plays off of other leads. In fact while searching for an image of James to attach to this post, most images had him in a picture beside someone.
My favourite Kevin James movie is Hitched. I know its a Will Smith movie, but I watch it for Kevin James. I can relate to his character. He always plays the guy you root for. The underdog that deserves better, not some loser you hope gets a break. He nails that so well. Mall Cop will tell us if we are ready to see Kevin James out front holding up the movie.
Then we will worry about Zookeeper.
