I am not a football fan, but I always like this time of year for one thing.
The onslaught of YouTube videos that will happen the day after as people are sharing their favourite Superbowl Commercials. The commercials during the Superbowl are not just standard clips telling you how strong their garbage bags are. These are unique TV spots attempting to be unique enough to survive the brain cell killing drunken haze fueled by testosterone cheering on your favourite pigskin gladiators!
But who got these coveted TV spots? Well we know that some movie studios have got their foot in the door.
It seems that every studio has something to offer for the game which airs on NBC February 1.
Films getting the treatment are Paramount’s Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen, Star Trek and G.I. Joe; Sony’s Angels & Demons; DreamWorks Animation’s Monsters Vs. Aliens; and Universal’s Land of the Lost and its fourth installment in the Fast & Furious franchise.
Disney will also be promoting Pixar’s, Up and a Wolverine spot is likely from Fox.
We already know about the 3d Monsters Vs Aliens efforts combined with Sobe’s lizard squad being presented in Intel’s new Tru 3d technology.
The studios are forking out some massive bucks to secure screen time during the most expensive ad spots of the year. Is it really necessary? Will the effort to show off some Transformers footage or finally seeing the GI Joe TV Spot make any difference by over paying for a 30 second spot? Or will they go outright crazy and buy a full minute to show us a mini trailer?
But is it worth it?
In case you live under a rock, Superbowl is February 1st.
