Tom and Jerry once dominated the small screen with slapstick rivalry that went beyond the simple genetics of cat and mouse. And now they are getting the big screen treatment with a live action film with a CGI cat and mouse.
Eric Gravning is penning the script, which will be an origin story for the feuding cat-and-mouse. If you ever wondered how they met and why they hate each other (other than, you know, being natural enemies) this movie will answer all your questions.
However, this film will also patch up their rivalry by stranding them in Chicago, and forcing them to work together to find their way home.
After the surprising appeal (to kids) of Garfield done live action I am not surprised they are going to attempt to copy the modest success with more animated to real life silliness.
But Tom and Jerry were genius in that they never had dialogue. I wonder if they are going to add voices to the sworn enemies?
Of course they had to invent some sort of plot to play on both sides of Tom and Jerry since from episode to episode they were either enemies or best of friends.
I just cringe to think of how my kids are just going to go crazy over this (and Alvin and the Chipmunks 2) while everyone over 4 feet is going to roll their eyes.
