Back in 1983, Star Wars was not the only sci-fi making waves. A made for TV Miniseries aired in two parts had the watercooler talking about lizard skinned aliens who came in peace, but really just wanted to steal all our water. This series was known only as V. (Short for The Visitors)
Now ABC has a remake on the go with Scott Peters (The 4400, Sarah Connor Chronicles, Jericho)
Remakes are all about re-imagining the original series. If Peters applies his experience from being behind the camera of The 4400, Jericho, Burn Notice and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. we just might get another butt kicker of a “remake.”
Behind the Scenes of V If he can take the best of these other shows and mix and match it just right, this could actually be quite the gem of a new show. Yes, I said new show. Like another show that has been successfully re-imagined, using dark themes about humanity, it could be a hit. Or, it could be another Knight Rider.
I really like when there is a reimagining worthy of watching. Battlestar Galactica comes to mind, as well as the off canon Sarah Connor Chronicles. Both are very enjoyable even though we know they deviated from the source material.
So deviating isn’t so bad if its done well, but we have no guarantee it will be. V was an awesome miniseries that captured a wide audience and became an instant hit.
I am surprised it is taking this long to revisit the series. I quite anticipated a long distant sequel, but a remake would probably work just as well. The original miniseries had two less known followups (Final Battle and Second Generation) so there is too much history already forgotten to try and catch up where it left off.
