In a desperate attempt to cash in on the pseudo-cult following of Waiting, a direct to video sequel has hit the shelves this week.
I don’t know why they thought they could do it, but they tried. They even got some of the cast (but not the important ones) to come on board. Check out the trailer:
Waiting was a genuinely funny rampage of squeamish delight with a side order of rich politically incorrectness. This told an incredible story through the wary eyes of a newcomer and shares the “back of house” view of a dysfunctional restaurant staff. Ingeniously told, raunchy funny and easily my favourite Ryan Reynolds comedy.
The thing that made the first movie great was that you COULDN’T ever duplicate its success. Its like trying to invent a youtube video to be viral. Trying to means it isnt. But that is the very thing they tried to do.
They even shamelessly use the same lines on the same character roles. Consider this my public service announcement to NOT get this movie when you spot it on the rental shelves thinking of how you loved Waiting.
Now forget it exists and rent the first one again.
