I am completely captivated by the works of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, and I am happy to share that his latest hit Ponyo on the Cliff will be coming to North American theaters this summer.
Ponyo on the Cliff actually opened in Japan in July of last year and has already earned ¥15.0 billion, which is about $153 million. Disney’s John Lasseter has been working with Spielberg’s producers Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy to make this release Miyazaki’s “biggest hit ever Stateside.” Mark this down in your calendar!
Here is the Japanese trailer that was released last year:
Ponyo on the Cliff tells the story of a 5-year-old boy and his relationship with a goldfish princess who longs to become human.
Should be interesting to see how the trailer differs, but aside from dubbing, the film is likely to stay intact and will likely be a welcome addition to my shelf of other Miyazaki films.
