The Toy Story movies are immortal. I’ll never forget the first time I saw Toy Story 1. It was in Welland Ontario as the Seaway mall with my good friend Jeff Lavallee and some cute chick who was double jointed and could bend her elbows backwards (it’s a long story). I was just blown away by it… and not only by the new CGI animation… I was blown away by the beauty and purity of the story itself. And the sequel is one of he only wide release films in history (if not the ONLY wide release film in history) to get a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Toy Story is the standard bearer by which all CGI movies are measured, and Pixar’s crown jewel.
Then a few years ago Disney (who technically owned the rights to the Toy Story franchise) announced they were going to do a Toy Story 3 WITHOUT Pixar. Anger flowed from fans of the franchise against this blasphemy. Eventually Pixar and Disney merged and now Toy Story 3 is coming with Pixar man Lee Unkrich (also directed Finding Nemo, Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc.) at the helm. My cup runeth over with joy!
Things are in full swing for the summer of 2010 release, because it’s being reported that they just screened their very first teaser for Toy Story 3 at the annual NAB conference and trade show in Las Vegas. Coming Soon gives us this:
Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Group screened the teaser trailer for Toy Story 3 at the NAB Show in Las Vegas and Variety says the clip “shows Woody supervising the Toy Story characters as they improvise a sign for the pic, only to have Buzz upstage them all with a high-tech version.” Featuring the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, Estelle Harris, John Ratzenberger, Ned Beatty, Jodi Benson and Michael Keaton, Pixar’s third installment will hit theaters in Disney Digital 3D on June 18, 2010.
I always wish I was in Vegas… but now I REALLY wish I was in Vegas. But have faith international friends… if they’re showing it to audiences, they’ll probably throw it up online soon enough. We’ll let you know when they do.
