The Rock In 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas: Captain Nemo

I remember hearing a while ago that McG, who is directing 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas: Captain Nemo (I’ll wait until I see Terminator Salvation to decide if I think that’s good news or bad news) was very intent on landing Will Smith as Captain Nemo. An odd choice for certain, but if the movie is going to be action/adventure, then it’s genius because there is no bigger box office star for those sorts of things than Will Smith.

But it looks like Smith is out of the running (or declined) and they’ve gone with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson instead. Didn’t see that one coming.

On the down side… I just don’t see him as Captain Nemo. BUT….

I haven’t read the script, so maybe he’s perfect for the role. I’ve also always liked The Rock. He’s no master thespian, but he does carry truck loads of natural charisma that goes right off the charts. Put him in the right roles, and he really shines. This COULD be one of those roles.
