Schwarzenegger in Terminator Salvation TV Spot

For those of you who only had a surface interest in Terminator Salvation because it didn’t have Arnold Schwarzenegger in it, you probably found out by now that he makes a cameo appearance. It was a nice addition and the effort was well worth the reaction.

A TV Spot attempting to lure more people to see the film was released which features the buff young CG enhanced Governator.

I didn’t hate the film, but I honestly didn’t like it. Still, Arnold’s appearance was made of awesome.

  1. I thought the film was really good. I’m a big fan of the first 2, and really didn’t like T3 at all. But I thought this was a great film. By no means was it as good as the first 2, but way better than 3.

Due to the Terminator timeline, this is both a sequel and a prequel. As prequels go, it does a great job of putting together a lot of pieces that we know have to come together. But still leaves room for more stuff to happen down the line. I like how it leaves a lot of doubt about whether or not this is “the future his mother told him about” or whether the future has been changed. It didn’t have that bland feeling a lot of prequels tend to have where there’s no suspense, and everything is all just falling in to place to set up the first film.

The appearance of Arnie was a great ‘secret’ and I’m glad they did keep it a surprise. I really enjoyed the fact I didn’t know it was coming because of ads, posters, action figures or anything else giving it away. Now the hardcore fans have all been to see it, and word has got out, there’s no harm in advertising it, especially if it gets a few people to go see it who otherwise might not have. That’s a really good way of handling it. I really appreciate the studio doing it that way.

  2. With you people being so pissed about this movie I’m afraid we wont be seeing another one :(

Thanks a lot to all of you!

    they should take new writers!!!

  3. Wow, I mean the effect was okay in the film but on a commercial it just looks horrible. Ill second the notion that WB must be desperate to earn a return on this film. Why I bothered seeing it I still dont understand, but Ill admit I did enjoy myself up until Connor was introduced to Marcus. From there holes appeared left and right, creating a logic gap to big for enjoyment. It was better than T3 but just barely. How can a son whos 30 save his 18yr old father ? By the time T1 begins, Connor would be 60, if its believed Kyle is at least 30. And how could Connor exsist if Kyle is still a kid. WHY Im still trying to figure this out ?

    1. Its time travel. Get over it.

You are over complicating things to your own detriment. If you are familiar with the lore of the Terminator films, this is a simple concept.

  4. I’m not sure why this movie is getting such a bad wrap. I thought it was pretty good. a solid 7.5 out of 10.

The action was good. I really got into the story even though I kinda figured it out well before the first hour ended. It was a definite upgrade to T3 and even better then T2 imo (something about that kid in T2 really annoys me).

Overall I thought the film got away from the “cheese” quite well. It turned the Terminator franchise into an actual decent movie. One that I look forward to seeing more of.

  5. Its an action movie and i went to see it an i got an action movie which was really really cool! if i want to see deep story and charakter development and stuff I go and watch a DRAMA!! OK?? So I really enjoyed it and i will go and watch it again tomorrow cuz the shots are so fuckin awesome!! I’m sad that a lot of critics look at this movie too strict! It’s a popcorn flick my goodness :( But i still dont know your thoughts on Terminator: Salvation :( did you say anything about it anywhere? I guess i missed it :( I think the story was a lil weak and the dialogues too but it was supposed to be an action blockbuster and from that point of view it was really really entertaining i think. from me: 7,5 / 10
I liked the Sets, the VFX, the editing, the camara, the cast, and the T-800 Model 101 Cameo was so cool :D

  6. i really enjoyed the flick. good fast paced action. tons of fun. sure it isnt gonna win any oscars but its the same quality of good movie as transformers was. dont understand all the hate for it.

  7. weirdly edited.
they put the ahnoold reveal in the middle and then go back to it at the end.
its like revealing worthington’s a terminator in the first trailer.

    signed- clueless ffs.

  8. During this scene everyone was going nuts, I thought the effect was amazing. The movie was okay but this scene totally rocked. I went into seeing this movie because of Christian Bale but walked away enjoying Worthington’s scenes far more than Bales.

  9. TO me, that commercial is “Oh Crud, we got beat by a Museum, we are about to be passed by Ed Asner in a house with balloons tied to it” and we have giant effing robots and wizards on the horizon! We need a gimmick to get butts into the seats now before we get shellacked at the box office for the summer”

  10. I thought the film was Epic. You take out the gas station scene (not the action part), the little girl that didn’t talk, and the cheesy heart ending and this ranks up there with predator and aliens for me. Loved it. The helicopter shot in the beginning of the movie is the best shot I have ever scene in a movie and I nearly shat my pants when Arnold hit the screen.

  11. if the cgi is that obvious i guess it could take away from the scene.

but honestly, if this is the original brand new terminator they built, how silly would it be if he looked like a 50+ year old man with saggy man tits??

the only way to get arnold back into this role is to make him look essentially “brand new”

    1. i would have thought it would be silly to use a +50 year old man (not menacing (sarcasm)). it definitely took me out of the movie.

i understand he is “right off the production line” and is brand new but they could have done him half machine half human with close shots of his face. the cgi used on X3 to make Prof. X and Magneto were great. they could have done the same thing with Arnold and super imposed his body on a similar body type actor. noentheless i was more thrilled for my son to see it so that he can tie T4 to the first movie.

the cgi in the rest of the movie was great!

    2. @w8ing “they could have done the same thing with Arnold and super imposed his body on a similar body type actor”

That is precisely what they did do. They digitally mapped Arnold’s face (he spent time on the set) then they “youngified” him to look as he did in the last appearance and digitally put him on Roland Kickinger’s body.

The screening I went to was in a digital theater, and the effect was perfect. Whispers and murmurs were abound asking people around them if that was really Arnold or not.

    3. @ rodney, thanks for the info, i didn’t know that. I guess my only critique would have been to use the same wizards who did X3 on T4, regarding the younger versions of the actors.

    4. Interesting, I was at a non-digital theater and the effect was far from perfect. It looked like a wax museum version of young Arnold’s head, that they laminated, then placed it on top a real person’s body. Definately, didn’t work for me, the contrast between the real body and this glossy/shiny head was just too much. It did resemble him though (but a really fake him). Sounds like it worked better in digital.

  12. Of course they would do this, that part was awesome but the film was mediocre. I loved the action and graphics but the rest was meh. In fact if it didn’t have either I would have given it a 0/10.

Biggest recent disappointment. I did like it but just. That CGI enhanced face almost ruined that cameo

  13. It was good, could have been way better, but that scene with the T-800 really made it work for me. I wonder if they do go ahead and do another two, if they would be using cgi to superimpose arnolds likeness over another body again. wouldn’t the t-800 be the terminator of choice for that time period? of do you think that they could get arnold back?

    1. I’ve heard rumors that the studios are considering bringing back Robert Patrick as the T-1000 in one of the next two films (assuming they get made and that the rumors are correct).

  14. I liked the cameo appearance but the face looked to digital I had a hard time with that. I think I would have been happier if they didn’t show Arnie’s face dead on. Maybe side shots or close-ups of his eyes so the audience knows that it’s Arnie. Does this make sense?

  15. If you have any interest in the series, please g osee this film. It’s bombing hard and if we wanna get a good T5 (now that the writers from T3 are finally fired) we need this film to succeed.

    1. With 70M domestic P&A that puts the domestic cost at about 270M. Theaters take about half of the 200M (100M). As I write this, the US gross is under 100M (so about 50M of that went to the studio).

It wont make much more at the BO domestically.

Income 60M (about half of the expected US gross of 120M)
Domestic Costs: 200M production budget, 70M PA

      270M – 60M = 190M loss.

      Mark

    2. Why on earth would I want a T5? Because all of the recent Terminator films have been SO AMAZING?
I don’t think so. The franchise can die for all I care.

  16. okay, they got me.

that made me wanna go catch it in theaters, rather then wait for the DVD…

but so many good movies are gonna be out soon.well see.

    1. It fucking very well WAS

I loved this movie, and he was in it for way more time, there were like 2 fight scenes with him in them

But it depends on who you ask, i personally liked the movie

And the empire of the sun christian bale kinda looks like T2 john connor lololol I just saw a picture were they were both compared and they look identical lol

    2. The movie is neither a huge flop nor an awesome sequel. It’s a very competent Terminator movie that does a better job than T3 (which isn’t hard) and continues the story. The action and special effects are excellent as was the sound.

The story was actually mildly interesting but not engrossing and I can see where many people thought it was blah. That’s because this movie suffers too much from the knowledge of the two sequels and so spends most of it’s time setting the stage so to speak. It can’t really go too far since there will be two more.

      Spoilers below.

      .

What I liked about it was that it establishes how Kyle and Conner meet. Establishes the entrance of the T-800. Establishes how John Connor manages to build a following (it was loosely due to his radio broadcasts, but by the end of the film it’s because of his foresight defiance of the resistance command). He’s able to avert a major catastrophe (most of the attacking resistance would have been killed) and still get the mission accomplished (destroy the facility) and also save all the civilians including Kyle.

Other good points are that it takes itself seriously (unlike the campy jokes/humor of T3 and even T2 to some extent). The cameo of Arnold was cool (even if it was CGI). The side story of the convict being half robot half human was very intereting. Seeing the facility was cool. I felt real dread in a few scenes (one being the gas station with harvester) which is rare.

Basically I though the movie was very good and fun. It’s not quite as fun or well rounded as Star Trek was, but it was very fun.

Bale could have had a little more emotional range but then again, this is a character that has prepared for and known about the end of the world since birth so I would think he would be a little jaded and serious.

I think those people saying this was the hugest flop or bomb or other things are exagerating. I think it’s gotten a bad rap to be honest. I think it’s also fair to say it’s not a 10 or movie of the year. It doesn’t need to be.

If you have a mild interest in Sci-Fi/Action movies it’s worth a watch. If you don’t then there are other things to watch and you can rent it.
