Bryce Dallas Howard stole my attentions back in The Village. It’s not my favourite Shamhammer movie, but Bryce had me from the get go. Now the films she has appeared in rarely impress me, but what I did find interesting is that she is following her father Opie’s footsteps and is doing some behind the scenes work. Howard has co-written a movie called “The Originals” with Dane Charbeneau.
The Originals is an ensemble film about a group of twentysomethings who reconvene for a weekend in New York after learning that the teacher who shaped their childhoods has fallen into a mysterious coma.
The idea for The Originals germinated a few years ago, when Howard, an actress with such films as The Village and Spider-Man 3 under her belt, took to the idea of writing something that tackled the quarter-life crisis issues her contemporaries were dealing with.
She is currently in negotiations with her father to do the directing, and this could prove to be an interesting drama for some.
Personally I am perplexed by the phrase “quarterlife crisis”. I would give ANYTHING just to have the issues of a 25 year old again, so I find it hard to get into a story about them. However I could completely see how people in that age group would be able to relate.
I would be interested to see how Howard plays out as a writer.
