What do you do when every woman wants you, and every man wants to be like you. That’s right, you sell Avon!
Hugh Jackman is lining up to star as a down on his luck salesman who turns to Avon to make a few bucks.
If Avon Man develops as it was pitched, it would be a sweet-smelling, fully-clothed Full Monty. Jackman would play a laid-off car salesman who is recruited to become an Avon rep: “While the experience is initially emasculating,” [really?] “he uses his charm and good looks to become a top seller … [and] sets out to save his financially strapped family and town by conscripting his buddies into the makeup business to win a regional contest.”
This does have a “Full Monte”ish feel to the synopsis. A group of guys get together to take on an unexpected career path and inevitably find some degree of success in it.
I don’t think it is much of a stretch to see Hugh Jackman as a clean cut, charming salesman who flashes his broadway smile at housewives wanting to buy makeup. Jackman is a charmer. And I look forward to seeing him do more comedy. So far we haven’t had much to slap a knee over with Jackman but he was pretty amusing at the Oscars.
But will this focus more on the story or will it be a 90 minute boost for Avon sales people everywhere?
