While fanboys are still reeling from the news that Disney is buying Marvel we have been attempting to calm the geek masses with our speculation that Disney or Pixar would have no real involvement in the Marvel Universe as Marvel already has their own studio dedicated to handling all that.
Unless of course Pixar sets its sights on Ant Man, and the panic mode sets in while visions of Pluto becoming the XMen’s loyal housepet start to mill about.
In the new Entertainment Weekly’s coverage of the Marvel-Disney deal they randomly drop this aside: “Pixar is said to already be eyeballing an Ant-Man movie.” They offer no further explanation for this particular minor bombshell, but there was news last week that Disney-Pixar animation head John Lasseter was meeting with Marvel’s team.
Personally I would prefer Pixar to stick to their own home brew of original animated features. Hell, give me Incredibles 2 if you are itching to hit up the superhero route.
Not that I don’t think they would do a good job with Antman, but more that I would prefer that Antman be part of the Marvel Films live action library so the character could stand a chance at being an Avenger.
Even a comedic approach to the character could still fit in the Marvel Films breed of features, and he could be a very minor role in Avengers spiraling out into his own feature.
At the same time, DC is enjoying a fair amount of success in their Direct to Video animated features of their characters, so perhaps Disney is looking at Pixar to churn out some DTV gems of their own featuring less popular characters.
