Was a time when A-List actors were quietly trying to line up gay roles in hopes of baiting some Oscar buzz, but these guys hardly need a gimmick to get the critics attention.
We already knew about Michael Douglas signing on to play Liberace in the biopic of Mr. Showmanship, but now Matt Damon has been brought on to portray Liberace’s lover.
Rama Screen shares:
Michael Douglas was attached to play the flamboyant pianist and at the time, Matt Damon was in talks to play Scott Thorson, the assistant/boyfriend who sued Liberace in 1982 for $113 million in palimony, claiming he was the entertainer’s companion for five years. Thorson reportedly settled for $95,000 in 1986.
Soderbergh confirmed that Damn will indeed play Thorson in the movie
I am really looking forward to seeing these two play off each other. Should make for a very interesting film now that I see who is attached. I was never a fan of Liberace’s style of entertainment, but his personality and impact are the stuff of legends.
